Edit & polish
Edit scenes and layers
Arrange your story, trim footage, and add text, images, and other details.
Open a video from My videos. The editor brings together the Script and Scenes panels, video preview, timeline, and settings for the selected video, scene, or layer.
Find your way around
- Script holds the words for each scene and the narration settings.
- Scenes lets you select and add parts of your video.
- The preview shows your composition; the playhead marks your current position.
- The timeline helps you navigate the sequence and select items.
- The settings panel changes according to what you select.
AI tools is the third tab on the left, after Scenes. The right pane has Video and Scene tabs. Video holds settings for the whole video, including Layout & framing, Captions, Audio, Title cards, Export format, Versions, and Defaults. Detailed corrections open in that pane; choose Video settings to return.
Trim and arrange scenes
- Select a scene and play it to find the portion you want.
- In Timing & edits, adjust Start (s) and End (s), or move the playhead and use Start at playhead or End at playhead.
- For recording scenes, use Split at … or Split in half to divide a scene.
- Use Merge with next when you want adjacent scenes together, where supported.
- Drag scenes into the desired order in Scenes, then play across the joins.
You can also change Speed and Transition in for the selected scene. Start and end values refer to the source material, so they may differ from the scene’s position in the finished video.
Add a title card or layer
Use Scenes → Add → Title card for a chapter heading. Select the card to adjust its text, font, colors, and alignment.
For content over an existing scene, use Layers in the scene settings. Add text, an image, another available visual layer, or a sound. Select the layer to change its properties, position, and timing. Preview both its entrance and exit so it does not obscure important content.
Keep text short and large enough to read at the size your audience will watch. For a consistent look, use a brand kit.
Choose the overall look
In video settings, use Layout & framing to change Shape and Fit footage. Expand Background & frame for visual styling. The Safe-area guide helps you keep important text and subjects away from the edges.
Use Video → Adjust scene framing to review the crop scene by scene. A portrait version of a landscape recording usually needs a framing check; changing shape alone does not guarantee that every detail remains visible.
Save and undo changes
Video settings, caption corrections, framing, audio, and cover/post text save automatically. Watch the top bar for Saving… and Saved. You can switch panes while a save finishes. If it shows Check your changes, saving failed: your input is kept and the affected tool offers a retry. AI suggestions still need Apply; typing a request does not change the video or block other controls.
Use Undo and Redo to step through edits. When saved revisions exist, Versions in video settings provides Restore. Use More actions → Duplicate before exploring a substantially different cut you want to keep separately.
Useful keyboard shortcuts
Use these while working in the editor, outside a text input. The toolbar’s Keyboard shortcuts menu lists the available commands.
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Space | Play or pause. |
| ← / → | Seek one second. |
| Shift + arrow | Seek five seconds. |
| , / . | Previous or next frame. |
| S | Split at the playhead where supported. |
| Delete / Backspace | Remove the selected scene. Undo restores it. |
| ⌘ / Ctrl + S | Save text. |
| ⌘ / Ctrl + Z | Undo. |
| ⌘ / Ctrl + Shift + Z | Redo. |
After editing, export again to include the latest changes in the finished video.
