Correct and style captions
Make the words readable, accurate, and timed to the right moment.
Captions are the on-screen words your audience reads. Review names, numbers, and specialist terms carefully, even when captions were generated automatically.
Turn captions on and choose a style
- Open your video and find Captions in video settings.
- Turn Captions on.
- Choose a Caption style and, where available, its Position and Highlight color.
- Expand Caption appearance for size, words per phrase, motion, bold text, and keyword highlighting.
- Play several scenes to check readability against different backgrounds.
For a vertical video, keep captions away from important faces, buttons, and screen details. Use the safe-area guide when checking the layout.
Correct words and timing
Open Video → Captions → Correct words & timing. The correction view opens in the right pane with Edit captions selected.
- Choose the scene you want to correct.
- Choose a caption, or click it in the preview.
- Edit its words and adjust its timing using the timing bar’s edges, or type Starts at (seconds) and Ends at (seconds).
- Use Add at playhead or Delete this caption when necessary.
- Play the scene to check that the words appear and disappear at the right moments.
- Changes save automatically. If saving fails, choose Retry saving, or Use saved version to discard the pending edit.
Use Undo to reverse a correction. Restore automatic captions replaces custom corrections with automatic captions and saves that change.
Check the framing at the same time
Select Adjust framing in the correction view to review the crop without leaving the scene. After adjusting the crop, play the scene again and make sure the active caption remains readable.
If you create a different platform version, check that version separately. Caption placement that works in landscape may cover the subject in portrait.
Understand captions and narration
Caption corrections change the displayed words and timing. They do not re-record your original voice. If the spoken message must change, edit the script and use an appropriate narrator or record a new voiceover.
If there are no usable captions yet, check the script and spoken-language setting. AI-generated text depends on AI availability in your workspace; see Settings → AI features.
Export your corrected video
After editing, export again. Watch the finished export rather than relying only on the editing preview. When a caption download is available, use More actions → Download captions.
If the video is already shared, publish the latest export to update what viewers see. See Export and download.
